Teen Parent Services

This program offers parenting education and support in a group format to pregnant and parenting teens using curriculum that incorporates portions of the Carol Webster Stratton and The First Steps program.

Parenting groups are held once a week for a period of ten weeks in various locations throughout Lane County. There is a strong relationship with the teens public school as well. Our relationship with the schools allows us to offer the groups at the site of public schools. Participants are also offered high school credits for completing the classes.

Groups will repeat four times a year. Sessions are generally two hours in length. Sessions are in part directed by the teens area of interest and will include the use of texts, video tapes, group discussions, live demonstrations and a model of positive parenting in a relaxed fun atmosphere.

Curriculum topics include critical information about child development, discipline, raising biracial bicultural children, dealing with racism, play, making low cost toys, sleep, feeding, toileting, career development, the role of child care, domestic violence and other topics that teens may initiate.

Teens are encouraged to bring their babies to the sessions. Teen fathers are welcome and encouraged to attend.
